How to convert degrees Fahrenheit to kelvins
A kelvin is 1.8 times bigger than a degree Fahrenheit and the scales start from different zero points, so the conversion goes through Celsius. To convert, subtract 32, multiply by 5/9, then add 273.15:
Mental-math shortcut: Subtract 32, multiply by 5/9 and add 273.15 — or in one step, K = (°F + 459.67) × 5/9.
Example
Convert 70 degrees Fahrenheit to kelvins: (70 °F − 32) × 5/9 = 21.1111 °C, and 21.1111 + 273.15 = 294.26 K.

What is the Fahrenheit scale?
The Fahrenheit scale (°F) is used mainly in the United States. Water freezes at 32 °F and boils at 212 °F at sea level, so there are 180 degrees between those two points instead of 100. Normal body temperature is about 98.6 °F.
What is the Kelvin scale?
The kelvin (K) is the SI base unit of temperature, used in science and engineering. The scale starts at absolute zero (0 K = −273.15 °C), the coldest possible temperature, so it has no negative values. Kelvins are written without a degree sign: water freezes at 273.15 K and boils at 373.15 K.

Frequently asked questions
What is 0 °F in K?
0 °F is 255.37 K.
How do I convert Fahrenheit to Kelvin?
Use the formula K = (°F − 32) × 5/9 + 273.15. For example, 70 °F is 294.26 K.
What is 32 °F in Kelvin?
32 °F is 273.15 K.
How do I convert Kelvin to Fahrenheit?
Use °F = (K − 273.15) × 9/5 + 32, or try our Kelvin to Fahrenheit converter.
Conversions use the internationally agreed definitions of each unit (for example, 1 inch = 2.54 cm exactly) and are rounded for display. Volume converters use US customary units unless stated otherwise.
