How to use the age calculator

  1. Enter your date of birth.
  2. The "Age on this date" field defaults to today. Change it to find your age on any past or future date — for example, on a school enrollment cut-off date or a retirement date.
  3. Your exact age appears instantly, along with totals in months, weeks, days and hours and a countdown to your next birthday.

How age is calculated

Age is counted in completed calendar units:

  1. Years: the number of full years since your birth date.
  2. Months: the number of full months since your last birthday.
  3. Days: the remaining days since the last full month.

Because months have different lengths, the calculator borrows days from the previous month when needed, and it accounts for leap years automatically.

Example

Someone born on June 15, 1995 is 31 years, 4 months and 5 days old on October 20, 2026. They were born on a Thursday, have been alive for 11,450 days, and their next birthday is on June 15, 2027.

Leap year birthdays

If you were born on February 29, your birthday only appears on the calendar every four years. Legally, many places treat February 28 or March 1 as your birthday in non-leap years. This calculator counts your birthday as February 28 in non-leap years.

Different ways of counting age

This calculator uses the international age system, where you are 0 at birth and gain a year on each birthday. Some cultures have traditionally counted age differently — for example, the traditional East Asian system counts a newborn as one year old. South Korea officially standardized on the international system in 2023.

Uses for an age calculator

  • Checking eligibility for school, sports leagues, voting, driving or retirement benefits.
  • Filling out forms that ask for age in years and months.
  • Finding out exactly how many days old you are — and planning a 10,000-day celebration (about 27 years 4 months).
  • Working out the age difference between two people (enter the older person's birthday as the date of birth and the younger person's as the "age on" date).

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my exact age?

Count the full years since your date of birth, then the full months since your last birthday, then the remaining days. The calculator does this automatically, including leap years and different month lengths.

How many days old am I?

Enter your date of birth above and look at "Total days." It counts every day from your birth date up to today (or the date you choose).

How is age calculated for someone born on February 29?

In non-leap years, this calculator treats February 28 as the birthday. Legal rules differ by country; some use March 1 instead.

Can I calculate age on a future date?

Yes. Change the "Age on this date" field to any future date to see how old you or someone else will be on that day.

How do I find the age difference between two people?

Enter the older person's date of birth as the date of birth and the younger person's date of birth as the "age on" date. The result is the exact difference in years, months and days.

Results are provided for convenience and rounded for display. Sales tax rules, tipping customs and date conventions differ by location, so check local rules when it matters.
